Anyone have any personal experience with Landmaster UTV's? I'm (not surprisingly) finding conflicting reports online.

I've been watching for smaller "work" UTV's (48-54" wide) for use on the property, no recreational trail riding. Stopped at a dealer about an hour away last weekend when I saw a couple sitting there. One is a Landmaster L4 that fits the bill. 4x4, Kohler 14hp Command Pro, winch, plow, hitch, cab, dump box. It's a fairly basic machine, no heat, not fancy or fast; but should serve my purposes. Brand new 2023 model year for $8500 (absolutely will not haggle anymore, I tried) including the accessories. They said they just want to move it because it's been there so long and the price originally was close to 20k. Next to it was a similar Kawasaki Mule 2025 with no plow, no cab for $9500...

The overall ratings on it seem pretty good (for what it is as a work machine) with cons being "noisy" and weak brakes. Then I found forums with some folks absolutely blasting them (and all off brands...). Complaints about the engine bogging down and running for crap. Then someone chimes in about E85. It's so hard to know if complaints are legitimate or stupid people doing stupid things with equipment (like running E85 in small engines)... Even running 87 octane with the 10% ethanol blend is questionable.

The few similar small used machines that I have found are 6k to well over 10k in varying condition.

Now I know name brand is often the best way to go and if I wasn't a bargain hunter (read "cheap bugger") I'd go Mule, Kubota, small Honda, or something similar; but 15-25k is hard to justify.

Has anyone had a Landmaster with any constructive assessment? There's apparently been some lineup changes recently in 2024.

Why not look at an old CJ5? There are a million on marketplace that run and have a winch for a couple thousand. For 8k, you could get a really nice one that is road trip worthy if you want to do it at 45mph.

My neighbor has one that I've worked on a couple of times. His has a Honda motor in it and honestly the buggy as a whole is not really impressive. I'll second the brakes are lacking. The couple of times he's come up my buggy trails with a load of wood it's pulled ok, so I can't fault it at that.

I went through the mental gymnastics you are running through right now when I was looking for a buggy to haul wood around my place. I was watching farm auctions and such and ran across mine in a driveway, for sale. Its a Massimo, read chinessium, made by hisun that is a big builder of that kinda stuff. Parts are readily available and it does the job well. These are the ones you see at Lowes and the like for around 10 k new. Picked mind up for 4k, a low hours steal.

Good luck with your search, I was on the lookout for quite a while.

That's exactly what I tell my wife the people who have the giant machines should do!

Our trails and boardwalks are too narrow for that. I'm currently rebuilding my dilapidated old boardwalks to 64" wide and better framed. I want as much clearance on both sides as possible and keep the weight down which is why I'm looking at the narrow machines.

Massimo! That was another one that was being put down.

My 2 main purposes are wood hauling/work and getting batteries & gas tanks down to the boat/water. There's appeal to a brand new machine with a warranty in the same price point as something somebody has beaten and potentially not maintained.
