Hi again guys, I've done a few searches on the subject, but I would like to get your opinions on something. Don't worry, I'm not going to ask you who I should hire. Just want some clarification from some pros, that's not biased.
I've got two quotes for chimney installation from certified contractors to install the chimney (out basement wall, and up side of house). One quote is nearly 30% more expensive, and I'm not really seeing a LOT of difference. The only, and main difference is, the more expensive quote uses Selkirk CF chimney, and the less expensive uses ICC Excel.
According to the Selkirk CF installer, it has a 2" insulation, versus 1" for Excel. I've read that Excel is great, so I am leaning towards the less expensive install (I will get references of course first).
Beyond that,
More expensive has this - wall plate spacer, exterior wall plate, and decorator sleeve, whereas
Less expensive has this - 6" wall radiation shield
Other than the standard chimney parts, the concrete boring, wall braces, rain cap, wires etc. which all match up pretty close, notwithstanding the chimney brand.
