late 1980's VC multi fuel vigilant short leg kit help

I have a Vigilant multi-fuel stove with the standard 7.5" legs and after looking for the now non existant short leg kit it was suggested that I cut the current legs to 3". I'm not quite sure what to use to cut the cast legs with. I don't want to break them and I don't own a plasma cutting torch, is there a type of skil or circular saw blade that i can buy that will cut cast iron? Or does someone know where i can get the short leg kits?

Yes they are telling me that because of the change in ownership that the short leg kits are discontinued. But that may be a falsehood, why I'm checking on here, owners of VC stoves seem to sometimes know more than the sellers... Hmmm

I have found that there are for some reason a cluster of cretinous VC dealers in central NH. When I was calling around to price some parts a while ago I got all sorts of misinformation and a generally unhelpful attitude, as if selling parts was below them. Fortunately, not to far away in VT you have some good ones that have close connections with the factory. I would suggest calling Home Comfort Warehouse in White River, or Mills Hardware in Bethel.

BTW, I didn't have much luck with the online stove parts shops, that don't specialize in VC.

The cast legs can easily be cut - cast iron, in general, cuts well with a hacksaw or a cut-saw with the right blade - or a cut-off metal saw, metal band saw, etc.

Of course, if you can get the shorties, do it.

Yeah, as above - if Home Comfort Warehouse doesn't know....probably no one does. The owner there WAS THE CEO of VC for a number of years! Also try Black Swan stoves - CT - they have a web site.

Please note that cutting the legs requires some changes on what is underneath the stove - or you will overheat the floor!
