[Hearth.com] Leaf and bark identification [Hearth.com] Leaf and bark identification I gave a few of these trees in my general area. I am having trouble with finding this in my tree books. What do you think?

blackgum/ black tupelo (Nyssa sylvatica). Leaves - dark green, glossy leaves (incredible fall color). Twigs - slender and wavy. Bark - unremarkable. Buds (in format season) is good ID as is its fruit (if your tree is female).
As the dendro TA said, "When you've eliminated the rest . . . it's blackgum." An oversimplification, but something to remember and consider.
