Little help with id

Burns great. Takes awhile to dry cause it's a hickory. Splits easier though and you can use it to smoke some good food

What about sweetgum? I haven't cut a lot of it but what I have seen looks similar. Were there a bunch of spike balls on the ground around it?

Nope not gum. That's the worst tree on the planet
