I just purchased my first stove... a Jotul F50 TL Rangeley. (broken link removed to http://jotul.com/us/products/stoves/jotul-f-50-tl-rangeley#technical-area)
It's not getting installed until next month... but I got to thinking... Can the stove comfortably sit on the floor without creating potential load bearing issues.
The stove weights 569 lbs, not including the hearth. My home seems solid enough... it was built in 2002... the joists are all 2x10 and spaced 16" apart. The stove will sit in our living room, against an outer wall, above our basement. There is currently no other supporting structure under where the stove will sit. Not sure if it matters but the stove will sit perpendicular to the direction of the joists.
It seems sufficient enough to support this kind of weight.... but thought I'd get your opinions on the matter.
Thanks in advance
