loading a Grandma Bear

  • Active since 1995, Hearth.com is THE place on the internet for free information and advice about wood stoves, pellet stoves and other energy saving equipment.

We strive to provide opinions, articles, discussions and history related to Hearth Products and in a more general sense, energy issues.

We promote the EFFICIENT, RESPONSIBLE, CLEAN and SAFE use of all fuels, whether renewable or fossil.
When loading/burning my Grandma Bear is one way better than another. Burn longer? Burn better? 16" side to side or 20" back to front?
We have a Lopi Liberty, if we want a longer burn we would load it side to side. All our firewood is cut to burn front to back, we like burning front to back even though we get shorter burn times.

We heat from our basement so a longer burn time won't heat the upstairs like a shorter hotter fire will, see what works best for you.
