Locust Job for Scotty Overkill?

I found the following on Craigslist not far from Scotty's area. The location is about 30 minutes from my home but there is no way I would attempt to drop a tree near a house, pool or deck unless it was leaning really hard in the opposite direction.

I Have 5 40-50ft Locust Trees free for the cutting.

The only requirement are that;
#1 You know how to fall a tree, as these are within striking distance of my house, pool and deck
and #2 You take all 5 trees.

Be great for firewood or milled.
If interested get back to me.

Free wood ain't Free

Great add though. I see them all the time around me. I quote them. I will come remove your trees (already dropped and may need bucked) for "X" amount of dollars. Most refuse. But some always call back.

Locust is some good wood. My Amish neighbors wont use it for firewood...... Only fence posts

LMFAO. This very guy called me last year, and wanted them done for free. I told him I couldn't do them for free, as the liability was an issue.......I would love to have that locust, though.

people never cease to amaze, do they? Over at ArboristSite they have a thread dedicated to this very subject, and there are some good ones out there!

I seem to see more of those type ads than anything around here "If you cut down my very large trees that tower over 3 houses & are near power lines...You can have the wood FREE! But you must have proper equipment,experience,a good crew,liability insurance & clean up everything - including raking the yard & removing all brush.."

All except my tree service contact - he's got another big one for tommorow - Sycamore up to 3 & 4 feet diameter!! Good thing my backyard is full now.... Though a sycamore butcher block would be cool,end grain sycamore was a favored wood for that many decades ago.

I'll haul off the wood from Down trees, FREE!. ( in most cases, within a reasonable distance, easy access & most wood types)
(Can save you $100's of dollars per tree)

Just let the tree removal service know they don't need to haul off anything over 5" in diameter & I'll save you some $$ money!
Call so I can coordinate with the tree service for the wood removal.
(Close access to the wood with Pick-up truck &/or trailer required)
(long distances from my location & difficult access, call for a bid, (may still be able to save you some money)

Unbelievable. I do have a tree service that will call me when they are close. Randy (owner of tree service) makes much more money dropping trees and giving away the wood fast so he and his crew can get to the next job. The value of the wood to them is pennies. The last job they did was in a subdivision with small lots and they dropped 3 good size ash trees. I watched as the crew perfectly dropped all 3 trees between swingsets , fence, house , and camper. Professionals for sure and should be paid as such. Me, I would have easliy missed the swingset, fence and camper. House would have needed some "not so minor repairs"
