Whatever this is, it sure is pretty. Almost felt guilty cutting it up. Is it Cherry? My guess is it didn't go to the mill because of the cast in it.

Thanks,
Bruce

That is beautiful Bruce. The heartwood looks like cherry to me, but I'm not an expert. BTW, what's 'cast'?

That is some nice firewood. Good pics.

O-cast is a curvature in something. I think the loggers call it crooked.

Yup that be Black Cherry. One way to identify older trees in the field is the bark, think 'burnt potato chips' and you're getting close....

Great stuff in the stove, insert,BBQ pit or smoker. Not to mention a primo furniture/cabinet wood, when decent size/quality,same with Black Walnut.

Nice pics, that just helped me id what I got. Keep on cutting! Be well

Nope. That cherry would not go to the mill for sure. I've sawed some awful crooked stuff and it is not fun plus you get too much waste. Not only waste of wood or lumber but the wasted time sawing, skidding, milling, etc.

Yea, that's what I thought. I don't mind :)

That bark and the nice reddish heartwood say Black Cherry. Lucky you that it is not straight.
