Hard to tell from that distance. Left side is definitely a hardwood. The other will make good shoulder season wood either way. Never turn down free wood!

For the picture the bark kinda looks like a cherry.

Left looks like cherry to me, from the color of the wood to the bark, dries extremely fast once CSS. The right? Idk too far away to tell, maybe norway maple or tulip poplar? not sure.

Left does look like cherry. Kind of looks like pine also, but you would be able to tell by smell. I like burning cherry.

I have no idea what is on the right.

If a tell tale sign of elm is water gushing out while splitting then it's most definitely elm. Unfortunately the guy with the cherry never got back to me
