log length wood

hi guys and some gals, i live in rhode island. i was wondering if it is a good deal to get 8-10 cords worth of log length wood for $700 green. i could also purchase green wood cut and split for $135. the price is a bit more but i don't have to process it . i currently do not own a splitter but would consider since i will be using wood for let's just say .the rest of my existing life.lol. i am just wondering around these parts if $700 seems to be a fair price for log length deliveries. if not does any one know of any companies that would offer a better deal?. thanks and am looking forward to your responses.

Good deal if the logs are a high BTU hardwood such as oak, hickory, hard maple. With log lengths, most of the work getting firewood is done for you. All that needs to be done is to buck, split, stack....the easy and fun part of firewood. You need the exercise, right ?
Use a good saw that you know how to use safely, always sharpened chain, and full PPE ( Personal Protective Equipment). Hand splitting gives you an fine upper body for the summer, hand/eye coordination, and especially, sublimation of that stress from work. Good, maul and wedges, and perhaps a small tire to hold the bucks for splitting. Don't allow the wedges to mushroom. Then, once you stack the wood in your new woodshed, you'll be able to lurk and sneak peaks at that woodpile--it is a disease. Join the Piles club.
Get the wood green now for next winter. $700. for a log load IF it's 8-10 cords is excellent. Remember that it is log length, not cut and split cords. Then you'll have spring and early summer to work the logs.

hi Tom, I'm down at the other end of the state (charlestown) and am also looking for log lengths. $700 sounds like a good deal for 8-10 cord, particularly if it's oak. Any chance you could post or PM the company name and number?

I live in Maine and got a price for 8-9 cord of Sugar Maple and Oak for $750. Breaks down to about $75 a cord. Cut split and delivered green runs about $185 a cord up here. Doesn't really help you with your pricing down there but the load price is similar.

I had a tri-axle load of wood last spring for $500 buck, but I don't think it amounted to 8-9 cords.
The truck had a grapple crane (or whatever it's called) on the back.
The same place wants $650 this year. I bought it split this time at $150/per.

topcat. i am from RI and was considering purchasing some wood probably from the same dealer. Sounds like an ok deal to me. I plan on contacting the seller and asking what type of wood and its condition. I believe it is Krawiec Tree Service.
