Looking to potentially replace two existing heaters. 14 years ago I installed two 7500 BTU DV heaters in the back bedrooms of our house. Made by Empire under the "Housewarmer" brand, they're long out of production and parts are not available. I like them and they're still working, but not burning as cleanly as they used to. I just cleaned the burner in one of them and there was a good bit of carbon. The piezo igniter died with no available replacement, but I was able to adapt a Weber grill igniter (just the pushbutton spark generator, the burner electrode was fine). That's the big red button in the photo, the original was much more compact and flush mounted. I guess it's time to start thinking about replacing them, but I haven't found anything close to them. Only 13" wide and 2" of side wall clearance required, and I don't have a lot of space. And the prices on the [too big] ones I have seen, yikes!

Anything bigger would be overkill, since they're only heating the room they're in (a 30k gas fireplace heats the rest of the house).

Hmmm... the Rinnai, aside from being 5" wider and at $1469 is six times what I paid for the old ones, it would work (if it fits).

I wonder how much of that price is tarrifs, which may or may not still be in place by the time I actually need a replacement...

OTOH the Comfort Glow is only $299, why so much cheaper? The required clearances are somewhat more than my existing unit, but U could probably deal with it.

I have no idea if 1 is better than the other. I just searched for a small dv gas heater. They still exist, let your wife choose the correct one!
