my fireplace is level with the floor in my home, i want to rais it up, maybe 4-6" i am concerned about the heat though. has anyone raised their hearth? i would probably leave the firebox at floor level, i am thinking about using granite/cobblestone like these for the base.

i'll probably use a granite or bluestone for the top.

I'm not following how the hearth be raised 4-6" without blocking the bottom part of the fireplace? Is this a tall fireplace opening? How high is the current fireplace lintel? Pictures are welcome.

what i am looking to do is raise the front area up about 4" then leave the firebox at floor level. i am looking for information as to if this is feesable or not. the hight of the firebox from floor is 30" so the ne opening would be 26"

DO NOT BLOCK the air circulation to your stove ! Do not understand what you would accomplish by doing this !

Would you still have the required mantle clearance after raising the stove?

lets try this again
the fireplace is flush with the floor. originally it has marble tiles on the floor in front of the firebox and surround.
my hope is to raise the area in front of the firebox. leaving the firebox at the floor height. i want to have a 4" high granite slab set in place. the firebox height will not change.
my concern is that the 4" raised pedestal will cause a problem
