new to this forum! Iam having a terrible time trying to get parts warranted through my dealer. Does anybody know if I can go through another dealer or a way to contact Travis industries? I have been trying since late January. Thanks for your help!

Have you tried contacting Lopi? http://www.travisindustries.com/contacts.aspx I realize they don't sell direct but if the dealer is not supporting their product, there has to be other options.
You could also use the map to find another dealer that is reasonably local...

What kind of issues are you having?

PS: Some dealers will assist even though you did not purchase from them, others will not as their mark-up is meant to help defray any warranty issues. Did you purchase this unit from this dealer?

I did purchase from this dealer. Nothing but problems from day 1. After the first year of use the whole back of the stove was cracked all the way through. We noticed the change in the flame that's how we found it. I did get a new stove in two days and that's what raises my suspicion right now. Dealer told me they contacted Travis industries and they were sending a new stove on the next truck. I live in upstate New York and it is hard to believe that from Washington I can have a new stove installed in less than 2 days. Now less than a year old all the bolts on the leveling feet are stripped out and the catalytic combuster has crumbled. I have been trying since January to get a new combuster but they won't give me the time of day. I emailed Travis Industries but got a reply to contact my dealer. Of course I can't find a phone number to contact them anywhere.

425-609-2500 Travis Industries main number ... good luck! Keep us posted.

PS Was any of the stove issues and replacement documented by email? If not dates, serial # from both stoves to sort out whether he just sent you a floor model.

Cat destruction could be user caused or it could be due to flame impingement. IIRC there is no flame guard before the cat on this stove.

Also new to burning wood. Could you explain user and flame impingement ? Any help is greatly appreciated. All I do to clean the combuster is vacuum lightly like the manual says. Just got off the phone with dealer and supposedly parts are on there way. Not bad after 3 months of weekly phone calls.

Thermal shock from sudden temperature change can damage a catalytic combustor. This could happen during a refuel when the catalyst is red hot and some snow covered or icy wood is tossed on the fire. Dry, fully seasoned wood is essential for good operation in modern stoves. Or it could happen when flames from the fire directly wrap around the baffle and burn up against the catalyst. The latter has been reported to happen in Travis hybrid designs. Their design has the cat unprotected from direct flame. Other stoves typically put a screen or a plate with many holes in it before the cat. This is known as a flame impingement screen. Rough cleaning can also damage the face of the ceramic catalyst. The surface is fragile.

Catalytic combustors are made from ceramic or from steel. The latter type might be a better replacement for this stove given it's design if this continues to be a problem. For more user experience with this stove use the Search box in the upper right of this forum. Search on Cape Cod, title only, in this forum only.

My cape cod also cracked after only a few months of use. Many other parts failed as well. We got no help from Travis ind at all until the crack. Needless to say I chose a different stove. No more cape cod for me!

Just an update. I got the parts replaced. I did have to contact Travis Industries and I believe they called my dealer. The problem was the dealer I believe. Travis industries rep told me the parts were warranteed in March.

Did you get a contact within Travis Ind. in case the dealer leaves you hanging again. May want to follow up with a letter to identify the issues you have had with the dealer. Kind of puts them on notice that just because you have a lousy dealer, doesn't absolve them on stove warranty issues.

I work as an installer that has been a Travis dealer for over 25 years. I couldn't get much of any help. Just finger pointing and trying to avoid accepting any blame. Shame on them!

I've talked to the engineers and designers in person and they claimed they have never heard of any parts failures or cracks. I told them that my cracked stove was sent back for analysis, they never saw it or heard about it... This has severely hurt our relationship with a Travis, nearly severed it.
