what is the small hole in the bottom front of the fire box. It is always buried in ash.
 
I haven't looked inside mine but it has to be part of the primary air system. I know the ashes do blow out when the primary air rod is pulled out.
 
If its right under the door its probably the doghouse air as its called
 
My OAK is installed in the middle of the bottom of the stove so I think that is where the air intake is. I meant to look this morning and forgot to see what it is your referring too..
 
The OAK travels inside the bottom and comes out of the hole you are talking about in the firebox and on either side of it too.
