Lopi Insert Flue Connection

Maybe I’m overthinking this, but the flue connection for this Lopi declaration insert doesn’t seem like a very good design. The appliance connector is a loose fit at best and only engages about 1/2” into the stove collar because of a welded tab that I assume is to prevent contact with the damper rod. The manual doesn’t speak to sealing this interface at all, just securing with the 3 screws and brackets. Is it worth sealing around the connection with furnace cement or something more robust? I’m also contemplating cutting a notch in the front and back of the appliance connector to allow it to seat deeper in the collar without contacting the damper rod. Would this cause any issues?

The adapter can be notched to clear the bypass rod. The gap should definitely be sealed by using some flat stove window gasket or furnace cement, or both.

Is this the style gasket you would recommend? And does it matter how far the connector extends into the stove? As in should I bother cutting the notches and if I do should the connector go all the way down so the step where the liner bottoms out is resting on top of the stove?

Yes, that would work, though th 5/8" wide might be better. It will allow room for a good bead of furnace cement to sit on top of the gasket.
