Lopi leyden exhaust blower

For the past two months or so, the exhaust blower would make a squealing noise at times and it acted like it wasn't pulling air through like it used to. Well tonight while having supper, i noticed that the glass was all black, and the flame very lazy. Took a flashlight and looked in through the back and could see that the motor wasn't turning at all. Everything else was working. Room blower was going, auger still feeding. How much of a job is it to replace this? Does anyone have any instructions of how to do this? Of course it is a corner install so I will have to unhook the vent and turn it around to get at it.

Mine was replaced by dealer during year 2 because it was making bad sounds. They replaced just the motor, not the whole housing. Looking at it, it is appears easy to take the motor off if you have access to get back there. You might need a new gasket also between the motor and housing. The exhaust blower on the Leyden does not have oil ports to service it like the convection blower does. It should, maybe they would last longer...

The exhaust blower motor on my Lopi Pioneer lasted 3.5 seasons before it started making a slight squealing on start up. It would go away, but I knew the bearings were going. Mine was a sealed (no oil ports) unit, I think it is the same one they put in the Leyden. Got a new unit from the dealer (~$125 if I recall) and was on the shelf. It was very easy to swap out. It came with a new shroud and gasket.

Another blower motor shot...use the search button.

Pull the motor and bring to a local auto electric shop where they rebuild starter/alternators and they will put new sleeve bearings in it and freshen it up. I paid under $20 and was done in a couple of hours. Get yourself a tube of High Temp RTV from any auto parts store or even Walmart to use as a gasket.
Probably best to search out a NEW motor to replace if/when that motor dies in the future.

Picked up a new fan from the dealer this morning, and got some advice on changing it. Tried to just take the old motor off, but ended up taking the housing off as well because i didn't have the right tools to get at two of the nuts. or small enough hands. Carefully took the housing off so it wouldn't ruin the gasket, changed over the fan, then reinstalled the housing. Took me two and a half hours, part of which was looking for the right tools. To do it again, it would probably only take 20 minutes. Burning much better now, had to close the air adjustment because it was getting too much air.
