I was looking in the ratings on the Lopi Leyden wood stove, and someone posted it was made in China.. Is this true??? I asked my local dealer and he said it was not.. But I'm sure he would like for me to buy the stove. Will be moving this spring and will be looking for a new stove. I have enjoyed my Lopi Revere, so I thought I would buy another Lopi. Anyone know the truth on Lopi having stoves made in China??

I don"t have one myself, but a friend of mine has one. He love's the stove. Two years now he has been heating with it. That's about all I know. Beside's that is the stove I plan on buying.
I think the castings are chinese but assembly is in America. They could have stopped using Chinese castings, but they did at one time. The quality of the castings is on par with european and american in my opinion.
The casting kit for each stove arrives in a small, short crate from overseas, probably China. The assembly plant is in the Seattle metro area.
Greg, that Lopi was on our list when we were looking for a new stove 2 years ago. We finally went with the Woodstock Fireview and have been very pleased with it. It does seem to me they were both rated very close to the heat output but the soapstone is a much, much softer heat that what the Lopi Leyden gives. That Leyden gives off a lot of heat to where it can be uncomfortable if you are very close to it. Not so for the soapstone. I was amazed at the difference. Hey, this stove is also saving us a bundle of work because it has really cut down on the amount of wood we burn...and we are staying warmer too.
You will have NO PROBLEM getting parts for a Lopi stove, and the quality is excellent. You should not be making this decision based upon where castings are coming from. I think your decision should be based on the feedback you hear from users of the stove, the size you need, the features of the product, and your own preferences of how the stove looks in your home.
With the recent transfer of ownership of Vermont Castings, it might be true that no cast iron stove castings are made in the US anymore - though I am not sure. Point is - if you are considering a cast iron stove, all or most all of them probably have castings with overseas origin.
