Is there any difference in my liberty that was built Dec. of 05 to the new ones. Bought mine used and was given all the paperwork that came with the stove, the efficiency rating is lower than the new ones. Just curious.

Mine is about the same age as yours.
Not having a life, I just looked for the paper work
and the instruction manual says 70% Oregon Method.
There's a separate interesting tag which reads;

70% TESTED OVERALL EFFICIENCY
THIS MODEL HAS BEEN TESTED FOR EFFICIENCY
USING THE OREGON D.E.Q. "STANDARD METHOD FOR
MEASURING THE EMISSIONS AND EFFICIENCIES OF
RESIDENTIAL WOOD STOVES" DATED JUNE 8, 1984.
Tested By: E.E.S.P.C. Testing Labs

Maybe the stove has changed or maybe the testing has changed since 1984?

Yep, same thing mine says, the new ones don't look any different physically than mine. I kinda figured they use a different standard these days to try to sell stoves. You know a salesman will probably talk up the new stove. Just saying!

Same stove, different testing methods. I think the testing method was changed a couple years ago to comply with the Fed tax credit for 75% efficient stoves. Just about every manufacture found a way to get in on that credit.

I'm not sure where you get the new higher number from. A sales person?
I just went to the Travis Industries site and they list a "Steady State Efficiency" of 75%
and the pdf. of the owners manual states the same 70% efficiency rating.
"Steady State Efficiency" is when it's warmed up and running and does not include cool downs etc. which brings it down to 70%
No difference. No changes.

The EPA rates it at 63. We have the 2008 Liberty.

My liberty was purchased on 2-18-10 and the manual says efficiency is 70% but it still qualified for 75% efficient tax credit

Yes it does and my paper work adds;

63% EFFICIENCY
(NOT TESTED FOR EFFICIENCY. THE VALUE INDICATED IS
FOR SIMILAR NONCATALYTIC WOOD HEATERS.)

I believe 70% is a good number to go by, if you have to go by one.
