Hey guys, new to the forum here. My wife and I are currently in the process of building our new home in Middle Tennessee. I grew up in a home with an Ashley wood furnance and love the wood heat. Look forward to reading/learning and eventually contributing to this site in regards to wood burning.

Home will be 1,500 heated/cooled sq. ft., brick exterior, 1 story. Stove is anticipated to be supplementary heat but may end up being main source of heat.

We are currently contemplating the Lopi Cape Cod and Lopi Endeavor. I like the fact that the Cape Cod burns higher BTU's and look. But did notice it had the new Hybrid-Fyre system which I have read unfavorable reviews on. Looking for recommendations on Cape Cod vs. Endeavor for this particular home in middle TN.

For sure the Endeavor will be the lower maintenance stove, its burn tube system is tried and true technology. The Cape Cod is new. I like to give it a year or two to work out the bugs. It is a nice looking stove. Another new stove to consider would be the Quadrafire Frontier II or in older tech, the Jotul Oslo. If the home is well insulated and sealed then most good stoves around 2 cu ft should do the job. In catalytic stoves take a look at the Blaze King Ashford and the Woodstock Fireview.

I've had the Cape Cod for a season and a half now and love it. It looks great, has a great flame show, and is easily controllable. I can heat 2300 sq ft with it when needed. I may be wrong, but I think there was only one negative experience with it. It could be a complete piece of defective crap, but it sure is warm in my house and the wind chill is 5 right now in Indiana.

Lopi is an excellent brand. Don't get too hung up on marketing materials. There are different ways to test and report btu output. In mid-Tenn in a new 1500 sq ft house I suspect you will not need or want a 3 cu ft stove. The 2 cu ft Endeavor has been around for years and is a proven workhorse. The Cape Cod is new, we are still watching how this stove does, It is a larger stove and may be overkill if you are insulating the house well. The Jotul Oslo is in between. There are many other good stoves. If you like a steel stove but want it dressier and with a squarer firebox like the Endeavor look at the Enviro Boston, Pacific Energy Alderlea, Jotul Greenville, and Napoleon 1400C. In a cat stove with a jacket look at the Blaze King Ashford models. It is unique in this group in that it can run lower and slower due to the catalyst cleaning up the smoke.

I have a 1998 Lopi Endeavor, and it doesn't get easier or more reliable. It took a season or two to really get the hang of it, but now I get consistent clean burns even with small loads. The only maintenance I've done over its lifetime is to replace the burn tubes, and even then I didn't really need to. I'm heating about 1200 sq ft, and I seldom have to load it up full. I would recommend this stove all day.

IMO, the Jotul sure is the best looking stove. Looks like we are going to go with the Lopi Endeavor

We've got the sister stove, the Republic 1750 (the less fancy version). The only other stoves we might have considered, had we known about them/had they existed would have been the blaze king sirocco or ashford, or woodstock progress. Overall, happy with the republic.

The 1750 doesn't have the bypass damper though does it? I have read/heard that that feature alone is pretty invaluable

Republic is a tube stove, not a cat stove.

Correct, the free standing stove does not.

I am on my second season with the Endeavor and recommend it. My house is also 1500 sqft. I love the bypass damper because it helps to create a super strong draft fast. This is helpful with starting any fire but especially helpful when the outside temp is mild (50's) and eliminates any smoke puffing back into the house. Also, the bypass damper makes this stove very easy to clean your pipe, without having to remove burn tubes and bricks.

I also like the short clearances of the Endeavor due to its built-in heat shields. My is only 4" from the back wall which came in very handy as we wanted to maximize space in the house. My stove required much more back wall clearance.

The glass has gone brown in bottom left corner and door is going brown too. I'm trying upload photos.

Sounds like two different issues to me. Darkening glass is almost always a sign of wood that it too wet, too close to the glass, burning at too low or far too high a temp, or a combination of these factors. As far as the door frame is concerned did you follow the appropriate paint curing burn cycles?
