While reading John Siegenthaler's monthly column he mentioned that in his opinion any system equipped with ECM pumps should be equipped with magnetic separator as the motors are permanent magnet and thus prone to collecting metal. First I heard of this. Looking at Supply House the separator is more than the pump.

Just curious if a tee with magnet on the bottom would accomplish the same thing?.
 
Curious also. I was wondering about just sticking some rare earth magnets to the drain outlet part of a wye strainer where the strainer is. That would be too easy.
