Maine Woods Pellets revisited

Hi all -
Has Maine Woods Pellets recently changed their process or something? I picked up a few bags the other day to try out, and THEN read all the bad postings about them. What I got in these bags is nothing like what everyone has been describing. The pellets are not the real dark color - they are about the same color as the NEWP that I burned - and if anything, seem a little too long instead of the 1/4 inch length everyone talks about (many are up to 1 1/2 inches, some a bit longer). They seem to be a little softer than NEWP (they don't have that nice "snap") but don't crumble. I have burned two bags already - they seem to burn well. I am getting a fair amount of ash and clinkers, but that's not a huge problem with my Quad Mt Vernon because it auto-cleans regularly.

They are currently the best pre-buy deal locally, but I am hesitant to go with them if this batch just happens to be a fluke. I can get Lignetics for about $70/ton more.

I too just picked up 10 bags only because I wanted to try them and there were a lot cheaper than the NEWP.
Well I must say that they burned a lot better than the Energex that I just finished burning. The Energex left a lot of ash and clinkers in the burn pot and most mornings the stove was shut down because the burn pot was full of ash. The Maine wood pellets burned clean with no clinkers or anything left in the burn pot when the stove shut down on the thermostat.

Keep in mind that my stove is dirty as I'm waiting to shut it down for the season to do the last cleaning.

If I could get these pellets in this quality and constancy I would not hesitate to buy them by the ton and only burn them.

Hopefully Maine wood pellets have there bugs worked out and can keep on providing a consistent product at a reasonable price.

Bought them at D&J;in Sanford ME. I talked to him about the price war with the guy across the street and he laughed and said there not have a price war. He's selling them for $235/ton and the guy across the street has them for$ 225/ton.

I also picked up some bags of Maine Woods to try. Sounds like we bought from the same dealer. Pleasantly surprised with the results so far. Burning in my Accentra and MT Vernon without problems. I do have more ash than I like but heat output is good. Don't know which way I will go next season but at $229/ton the price is right.

Well, i was gonna wait till i got my last load of these pellets before i spoke up but i'm gonna tell you guys. They came up 3 different times from the factory as part of my swap. I have NO consistancy at all . Some bags are ok, some are chit . They still have to deliver another load & i'm hoping, probably against hope, that the next load will be all decent . Mr Carr has been very good to me so i know he is not to blame . But there it is . I will probably pay more & get different brand pellets when i stock up to maintain my membership in Pellet Pigs Muss

Have been burning the Athens, Ashland, all winter. Athens there size and color has changed over this period. These both have much ash, but good heat. No clinker, What is a clinker, I don't think I have had one in my stove which is a Quad Mt Vernon. Have been burning pellets for two years now. Wow over six tons and clinker. Amy i missing out on something.

Clinker is a crusty old thing that looks like a deformed Chihuaha Poop....lol Thats the only way I can describe I guess. lol

No problem. After rereading what I posted I sound like a dam commercial for them and him. I just wanted to say I'm not. I just like going there to get pellets because I can get in and out fast with nobody trying to sell me this or that and there prices are in line with everyone else or a little cheaper in this area. That and I would rather buy from the small guy than the big box stores!
