I’ve been wanting to add a wood stove or furnace to my shop for two years now and cannot decide on a marketplace find. Every time I find a wood furnace or wood stove I think looks good I find hundreds of mixed reviews online about them. Shop is 55X65 with 14’ sidewalls and is spray foamed top to bottom.

That’s a big shop, might be a struggle to warm it with a wood stove. I’m heating a shop about 1/3-1/2 that size, 13.5’ ceilings with a 2.3 cu-ft firebox stove (Vermont casting encore). For your shop, you’ll going to need a 3.3+ cu-ft box, and almost certainly a blower kit and maybe some fans.

As for market place, which is where I got mine, it’s all about knowing what firebox box size you want, and being able to go look at it to make sure it’s good (not cracked, not warped, fire bricks in tact if applicable, etc.). I’d also plan on re-gasketing the doors when you get it.

There’s some good deals out there, you just have to keep your eye out and be ready to jump. Alternatively you could look at one of the bigger steel stoves, like Drolet or Englander, and have a brand new one for a bit more.

I’m mostly happy with my setup, but the first season took some troubleshooting, and it convinced me not to buy a Vermont Casting Stove for my home.
