Installed a Daiken mini-split heat pump this summer. Has been a warm winter. When the heat pump gets the room up to temperature, but not the whole house, it will shut off for less than a minute then come on for less than a minute and continues to do this until I get tired of listening to it and shut it off. I e-mailed Daiken over a month ago and never heard back, the plumber has disappeared and Efficiency Vermont says that is what heat pumps do. I hope not. Is this "short cycling" normal? Any suggestions as to what may be wrong?

My mitsu unit doesn't do that.

In all, I wouldn't be happy with how that unit is running either, but I do not know how the Daiken units are programmed to run. Maybe that is normal for them.

Any way to check for error codes on the unit? Mine has a side cover on the outdoor unit that comes off with a list of what to look at with an LED bulb.

Often there is a setting to control the temp swing. See if you can get hold of the service manual for the system.

Shot cycling is not normal.. the new heat pumps have a variable speed compressor that spins up and down as needed

Perhaps it is just the fan in the room heat exchanger that is cycling.

Hmmm - if the heat pump was installed by a plumber, that might be part of a problem.

There must be someone else selling & servicing Daikin around there that could check it out?
