Most mini splits have the temperature probe stuck in the head. The remote does nothing. If you have a central ducted system, that would have a remote thermostat. In heat mode, a mini-split will run the blower when the temp at the head goes down and it turns on. In cool mode, the blower will run all the time. Basically find a setting you like and leave it. You might need a fan to blow it out of the room. I find I need a fan in the summer, but not in the winter.

On my unit I have the remote set as the thermostat,I want a better wifi thermostat so I have a better remote control function through their app when I'm away.alexa doesn't cut it for me.

Oh, good to know. I thought they were built all the same. I have an older Haier, and one that is almost new. I can double check, but I don't think they have that option. I think it might be because so often these are placed in closed off older homes (like mine) where the unit would over heat or over cool the room it's in if the thermostat was in another room. In the summer I have a large fan in my living room blowing the cool air towards the other side of the house.

We have a Daikin split system in our family summer home. When it was installed, the HVAC guys had to add a wifi interface adapter. Once that was added we can remote control one of the splits. We chose the one for the living room as it heats the living room and kitchen. Nice to be able to put the AC on before someone gets there or bump up the heat in the winter.

We don't use wall mounted thermostats. The remotes act as the thermostat.

My Haiers connect to the wifi also with an app. It's nice to be able to watch it when I'm away sometimes. That reminds me I have to do "self clean". Not sure what it does, but it has a timer in it and the only way to know is by looking at the app.

I don't remember anything like that. I will have to look at the app again to see if there is anything like that there. I spent a day last week sanitizing all the heads and cleaning the filters. A couple were getting a bit grimy

I guess only my new one has it:
With the Self-Cleaning Evaporator on Ductless (Split Air) Air Conditioners, dust that accumulates on the evaporator will be removed by flowing water.
Funny thing is you never know it's time unless you open the app. I made a calendar reoccurring appointment for every 4 months to remember.
