Question:

I just moved into a new house that is only 7 years old. The house has a brick fireplace that has gas logs. The fake logs are ok, but I grew up in an old house with a wood burning fireplace. Is it ok to throw a few real wood logs in on top of or behind the fake logs? If so, do I need to do anything special to the existing hearth? I know I will have to get a screen.

Answer:

NO, do not mix real wood with a gas logs setup. All kinds of problems could occur. If you wish to burn wood, please have a contractor remove the gas logs and piping.
