Modern stand-alone wood stove suggestions please!

Hello helpful wood stove experts! I am new to this forum - and new to wood stoves. I would like to purchase a modern-looking wood stove for our under-construction great room, which will be a large open space with a high ceiling and lots of windows. Our main heat source will be a heat pump, but were told we'd need some extra heat in that space, so wood stove it is! (We're not burning any gas or oil in our new house.).

I like the look at the STUV 16 and also the Osburn Inspire 2000. I like that both bring fresh air in from the outdoors for combustion. One plus of the STUV 16 is the large glass.

I've found a couple of negative review of the STUV 16, so am not sure which one to choose.

Any comments on these models - or any others recommended - would be very much appreciatedf!

This comes down to the old question of function vs form. To better advise, tell us more about the area being heated. Is this for a whole house or just a room or part of the house. How large is the area to be heated? Is it for occasional fires or with the intent of 24/7 heating? For an alternative, consider up island with the PE Neo series, made in Duncan, BC.

Because we will have a heat pump, and because the ceiling in this room is very high (14') with lots of windows, our contractor said we will need some extra heat in the winter in that space. The area is about 500 square feet. I will check out the PE Neo series - thank you for the suggestion! Any thoughts on the Stuv 16 or Osburn Inspire 2000? If you don't have any plans for how you are getting wood, I have a friend who lives in Victoria near Mt Douglas, and he loves to find and cut wood. He likes to make a little extra money too !

I wood suggest purchasing a wood cook stove. We have kitchen Queen grand comfort 550. You can view the fire, heat hot water, cook your meals, keep food warm in the warming cabinet. Holds the fire over night to the next morning . Far better than common wood stove. Energy efficient.

It's late to be buying wood. Get it asap and stack it in a good location that will allow the prevailing winds to blow through the stacks. I recommend Douglas fir. It dries fairly quickly in the summer.

Will PM you and see what we can do. Might at least get some good information. He does not burn wood in town, but has a cottage with a wood stove in Jordan River and there's plenty of fir around.

Pacific Energy and their other brand True North are local to you as begreen mentioned, I'd have a hard time not finding one in their catalog.
Our P.E. is just so easy to operate, so not fussy, and throws a ton of hot heat.
If I lived on the island I would be looking up Buckin Billy Ray for firewood! (YouTube guy)

I have a natural gas stove, it still works when SHTF as do propane stoves. Why would a cook stove which main purpose is cooking work as well as a stove that was made for heating? It wouldn't. I'm not saying cook stoves can't or won't heat well, just that they will not do as well at heating as a stove intended for heating. You can cook on most wood stoves as well, but they won't do as good a job as a cook stove will. When a stove does one job better it will not do as good as other jobs. Just the way it goes.
