MWP... Are they worth $219 per ton?

Sounds like they changed the mix, they used to be 80% hardwood and 20% soft, interesting.
multi-fuel stoves seem to handle the higher ash pellets better, some people wont' put up with the mess. I like the price
I had a reply from the plant manager at the Athens facility. I don't think he would mind my sharing this.
We have our own testing lab on site where I test pellets daily, so we don't have to wait weeks for the reports from the 3rd party labs that we also use. We also have a better quality wood supply than other pellet manufacturers. We now have saw mills all over the state seeking us out as a buyer for their sawdust and chips. We also buy roundwood to chip and use - like the paper companies - except we screen the chips to remove all small pieces (such as bark or even heartwood). We loose some of the good small chips that way, but we get a much better pellet. But, the screenings don't go to waste. We sell them as biomass to Greenville Steam or to Sappi.
Plus, we don't add anything to our pellets either. No vegetable oil and no plastic resin (this is the reason some pellets smell - they don't admit to it on the label either). They're 100% wood. And no recycled wood either. They're safe to use in any pellet appliance - we have a pellet barbeque/smoker here that we use them in. It works great.
In fact, we are so particular about our wood supply, that we are in the final steps right now of becoming FSC certified. FSC certification puts very strict limits on the wood you can use. We went through the certification process for some of our bulk customers so we don't have any plans yet for labelling the 40 pound bags as FSC certified.
Our pellets are a Super Premium pellet now (tested at 8770 BTU/lb and 0.31% ash) but we're still selling them for Premium pellet prices. There's no need now to pay extra for overpriced pellets from British Columbia where they're cutting all their spruce and fir because it's diseased - which will run out eventually. Now you can get pellets that are just as good, or better (not 100% softwood and still Super Premium), right here in Maine for a decent price. I'm glad you got a chance to try them out.

Interesting read save$. Lots of stuff in there! I didn't know they were doing round wood too! Dust and chips make the best pellets, But the round wood keeps um coming when the dust and chips run dry. Also nice to hear they are not using additives.
I would like to try a couple of bags against my Energex feed rate setting, when I burned 20 bags of

I have been very happy with the batch I bought so far, and at $199 a ton delivered the price is right. I think some of their different bags have caused some confusion as to what inside is old or new stock . I hope they are successful because God knows we need some successful business in Maine. I also hope Mr. Linkletter remembers us locals when MWP pellets become highly sought after around the country.

I bought mine from the guy in Jay, I told him I was only interested in MWP pellets if they were new production. He showed up with 7 tons of pellets in the green and white bags, I almost refused the order. So, we called the plant in Athens and I gave them the date code which is only on the outer white bag. I was told the pellets were made in June and when I questioned the bags, they said they had a bunch of left over green ones and that from now on, this was 2 months ago, that the pellets would be in the new log cabin bags. I was assured that I had fresh product in my green and white bag. The date code doesn't mean anything to the consumer, you have to call the plant to get the actual date, which they were good about doing.
