Fine there's no other in the price class. All that says that what is available sucks more than this one. It doesn't say that this one is a good vehicle to have.
I agree 100%! The same logic is why I own a Sprinter too;)

My X is back from the shop. Another $3500 in repairs. The warranty company is loosing bigly. Air strut, door latches and charge port door. Plus some seatbelt work and an alignment.

....

When there is an equivalent alternative I will gladly ditch my Telsa. There just isn’t.

The 'No alternative' comment I assume is just the number of seats in the X? If you drop to crossover size there are many great options....

I'm almost 6 mos in with my 2022 Volvo C40. Zero maintenance, zero problems. Probably 'faster' than the X, and got it 3 yo for $28k. I guess that's 8 years of your repair budget? I'll probably upgrade to something better/cheaper within 5 years. The only 'issues' on the fora are the UI crashes once in a while (I reset it maybe once a month, can do during driving ofc) and the low range (about 200 miles at high HW speed, so 170 miles usable minimum).

But it has seamless integration with Tesla superchargers. Port on driver's side rear. I will never sully the car by charging it on a non-Tesla fast charger. LOL.

It has driver assist for use on the highway that is really great. I'm surprised how much I like it. I feel like I am still 'driving' in the sense of situational awareness... I'm just not steering or running the speed. I can handle driving on the back roads...

I don't understand; you have a crappy (not reliable, expensive maintenance) car and spending another 80 grand on something for *back up* because of unreliability (and the once or twice a year vacation for which a rented vehicle would dwarf the cost) means you agree that it's worth having this Tesla?

I'll stop here as clearly I am not in your shoes.

We have out grown a minivan (GCWR) and even a full size SUV internal volume. We ask ourselves and kids to endure 18 hours in a single day. The sprinter is a luxury for us. One I never thought we would have and one I never would have considered before 2022. A 5 week rental that by the rental agreement aren’t allowed off paved roads and not allowed to remove last row of seats is just asking for trouble. I last I looked large vans go for about $1500 a week. The Sprinter is as good as it gets for a full size van. The van has done 18.6k miles in 16 months. It’s being used.

I’ve been driving a loaner 2025 GLS while the van is in to have $10 breather tube replaced for the past 2 days. I can say my old Tesla drives better. The Tesla UI is better. The interior isn’t as nice the MB interior. After you drive an EV it’s really hard to go back. Auto start stop sucks!

Start-stop can be turned off.

It can be completely disabled with a start stop eliminator.
There might options for MB. Recently they went to a secured interface to the ECU and other modules.

I miss station wagons. They don't make em like they used to.

12 Passenger '54 Packard. Lots of room for the kids (and a roof rack for the dog?)

I do believe most people who are convinced they need an SUV actually need a station wagon. The station wagon started to make a comeback in the form of "crossovers" but those still have such limited hatch space by comparison. Growing up we had a Subaru Leone, which was not a large vehicle, and I'm still amazed by how much stuff we managed to pack into that car on family vacations.

5$ per gallon gasoline would change a few minds. I do think as EVs continue to gain traction you will see more wagon like offerings just to cut down frontal area and keep interior space.

In Europe station wagons still are a thing. VW, BMW, Audi, Opel, Peugeot - many brands with good ones.
Great for families. Much lower air resistance (this better mileage) for the same cubic feet of space.

And petrol is over $5 a gallon.
