My House is GONE... Fire destroyed our home and everything we owned

Hey all,

I have been a member for awhile, we had a St. Croix Afton Bay pellet stove and a Napoleon wood stove. 1/28/14 our house went up NOT due to either stove though!! The fire marshal claims it was due to my son throwing burned eggs in the trash barrel. Luckily my two boys got out of the house but we did lose our beloved pets in the fire. We are still waiting for Ins. Co. to finish up the estimate so we can hopefully build a brand new home. I am going to put in a new stove and looking at the Blaze King Princess Insert for the new home. Have not made any final decisions yet but it's a though!!

My only other note to EVERYONE is check your Ins. policy for "replacement Cost of contents" "Code Upgrade" and Structure Replacement" I only had the structure replacement and lost 20K in our contents. Plus I need a new septic system now too

Wow Shawn, I am so sorry for your loss, especially the pets, but also for all the memories a house holds. It's good to hear that your family is ok. Best of luck with the insurance and rebuild. I hope it all works out well in the end.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your home. Especially your pets. Praise God you and your family made it out. Glad to hear it wasnt your stove. I review my insurance every couple years and encourage everyone to do the same. Be safe my friend.

Uh . . . welcome back.

Sorry to hear about the house and especially about the pets. As hard as it is to lose stuff . . . losing pets and people can be so much more difficult.

Not surprised to hear about the fire cause . . . number one cause of home fires are cooking fires (electrical and heating equipment are up there in the number 2 and 3 spot though.)

Good point about content replacement.

Thanks everyone! It's a tough road right now. Just trying to stay positive about things and hoping they get better.

They will get better. In the meantime take some breaks. Do good things for yourself and family. Build a positive future home and your family will be stronger for the experience. And don't be proud. So many folks try to do this all on their own. Seek and accept the help of friends, co-workers, community and church.

That is horrible! When I was a kid two houses near us burned nearly to the ground. While no lives were lost in those fires either, I saw first hand just how devastating such a event can be. Plus, having just lost our dog after 10 years, I understand the loss of your pets. I hope you can rebuild your lives both physically and emotionally. Good luck.

I love my blazeking and would recommend one to most people but if you are building new then why on earth would you want an insert? An insert is just a compromise to make the best out of a bad (fireplace) situation. If you insist on a brick chimney, that's fine I guess, but for crying out loud don't build a fireplace just to stuff an insert into it. Go freestanding!
