Well I had to go to FedEx and pick it up. It's a PE Summit Insert. Somewhere online, I read these things weigh 450 pounds. The bill of laiding said 390. I was worried about getting it out of the pick up truck, but it was a non event. I was on one end of the pallet and my brother and a friend were on the other. None of us are particularly big guys either.

Some people on here were asking about this guy on Ebay. Justin from Hereford, TX. I have no complaints at all. He was nice and did what he promised. It even came in a day early.

Now to let you guys tell me how I did. The stove liner was $349.00. It's 25 feet of stainless steel flex made by Magnaflex. It came with a cap, a chimeny cover thingy, and the oval to round connector, since the bottom portion of the flex is ovalized. Is Mangnaflex a good liner The stove was $2045 with the gold door. Shipping was free.

As for the stove. Well, this is my first insert but this thing is huge. So far it looks great attached is a picture. I did have one problem with it. I wanted to see what the fan would do so I plugged it in and nothing. I looked closer and one of the wires had come out of the wire nut. It's a crimp on wire nut and I dont have any that small to I'll have to guy one. I did shove the wire into the nut and turned it on. It's kinda loud on high, but I'm hoping it will quiet down once its installed and covered. I had to take the side cover off the stove to get at the wiring and I turned it on with that off as well, so I'm sure its alot louder than normal right now.

The Magnaflex should do a fine job for ya.

Oh Lord, another PE Summit owner to put up with around here. Oh well, congrats. Ya got ya a great wood stove at a heck of a price.

Oh and my buddy who helped me pick it up, used to heat with wood and coal when he was a kid. He looked at my house and said it's a pretty open floor plan and that I shouldn't have much trouble heating it. At least not the kitchen, family room, living, and hallway by his estimate.

Congrats. Looks good!
Let us know how the install goes and post pics.

It looks like they painted the stove right on the skid they shipped it on?

kwburn,

I noticed that. It doesn't look like the stove's been touched up. I'm guessing if they used an hvlp gun they could have sprayed the whole thing on the pallet. Wouldn't be a bad way to build things.

i'd love to see a picture of the firebox with the door open if you ever have time to post one.
i found it interesting that it says in the specs that you feed it straight in which may not be the best for 'viewing' but interests me a lot if it avoids blazing logs rolling out on you!

Here are two pics with the door open. I am concerned about the fire brick. Two pieces are tapered and they need to be. Also, The two smaller pieces that go in the back are smaller than they need to be and leave a gap. See the yellow arrows on the picture. Will this be a problem? Should I get a couple of pieces of brick and fix this?

Kwburn I took a pic with the manual inside so you can get an idea of how big this is. The manual is two full sized sheets of paper.

Here is another pic with the side cover off when I had to reconnect the fan wire. It's interesting that this is the right side of the insert. The left side is completely empty. The knock out on the left side of the insert for the room air is on this side. The air intake for the stove is on the bottom in the back of the stove. If you knck out the four inch circle on the left, then air is drawn in through the left front side of the stove then exits the left side of the stove through the hole and flows around the stove to the intake on the bottom of it.

This really got me thinking. I am going to use outside air, so the left side of my stove will do nothing. Why not put a fan on that side too? Then change the baffels on the top of the stove to redirect air from both sides. The baffels are really simple, just a few pieces of sheet metal screwed to the outside cover of the insert on the top of it. Also, the way the fan is postioned it really only blows air across the front 2/3 of the top of the stove. The Pacific D-1 insert has the same fan, 160 CFM and it's firebox is only 2/3 the size of the summit. I'm not going to chane anything on this stove this year. I'm new to burning and don't want to create any headaches for myself, but you can bet I'm going to blow some air in to the left side of the stove atleast once to see how much of a difference it makes. I have few old PC fans that I could hold up against it for a minute or two. If it makes a huge difference I might buy another summit fan and put it on the left side of the unit. I can make the necessary sheet metal easily. What do you guys think? In judging the airflow on it now, my 8,000 btu window air condtioner moves more air. How much is a replacement fan for these things?

Stupid Hokie. Why do you drink that cheap chit.

Psst. Hey Bart. I'll trade you some stamps for a bit of firewood.

Why don't you crack one of those open and figure out how I can Tim Taylor the fan on this thing.

There is room for four 24 packs but getting the last one in the door sober is too much like a Rubik's Cube. And like karl, my welfare check only lets me buy three cases a month. I have to make do the rest of the month with what I can cook up out in the shed. That converted insert that I posted the pic of as a wood smoker has to do double duty as a still heater.

Hmmm... People are always talking about ways to heat domestic hot water with their stoves in the house but a still attachment would make somebody a fortune.

Are you out there Corie? Bet them boys in the welding shop would love ya for that one and VC and PE sales would screech to a halt.

Bart,

Ever had apple pie moonshine? I don't know how they make the mash but it tastes just like apple pie. The problem is you only can drink about half of cup of the stuff. It's got to be atleast 150 proof. It burns like Bacardis 151.

Never have. Being a loyal taxpayer I like my booze to come in a sealed bottle. With a straw.

thats how we do it as well, the stove travels through the "finish line" on the skid we eventually ship it on. easier that way for the crew as well as on the stove. the unit is placed on the pallet as soon as it comes from the shot blaster ,gets initial finish inspection (last look at the welding before it gets painted) gets bricked, door roped , painted , and trimmed out with accents and glass, then final QC checks and if it passes that , it gets crated on the same skid it rode the line on.

I think everybody does that. The Jotuls were painted on the pallets too. Makes sense not to handle the stove after it is painted and ya gotta move it on something anyway.

I know it is an exciting time for you as it was for me when I first got my insert. I got mine in June of 2006 however, and it drove me crazy waiting to burn something, ......well the time came and it served well. I cherish my insert and I know you will too,.....CONGRATS! There is nobody like us woodburners!

They all are painted on the pallet. Mine was also.
Before you go nuts trying to build a better mouse trap. Use the thing this winter anf you will most likely find you don't need nor want a second fan on it.
That fan on high puts out some good heat. Changing the design will most likely void the warranty also.
When you get her in and ready to burn, MAKE SURE YOU ADJUST THE DOOR OR AT LEAST CHECK ADJUSTMENT WITH THE DOLLAR BILL TEST!!!!
I found out the hard way they are not adjusted for fit at the factory, and had a couple weeks of 800° temps and a hard to control fire before I checked adjustement and found she needed tightening. Thansk Willhound, Roo & others for the help on that.
Load her front to back, the view is just fine, and no rollers when reloading.
Cut your splits so they set back a couple inches from the glass and she will stay fairly clean glass wise & clean herself pretty well most the time.
Pack her full of a couple large rounds or splits and fill her to the gills on top of that before bed and you will get a nice overnight burn.
Now that I have the Caddy of stoves * snickers*, I am going to git me one of dem dar 30NCL's for my office. I gotta stay humble, and I am duying to try the Englander!!! Oh Corey, where the hell u been man!!!!!!!???????? ANd new designs going on?

Congrats on the new Summit man, its a great stove, I doubt you will be disappointed.

SUMMIT..SUMMIT...SUMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry guys, couldn't help myself. :) We are growing in numbers!!!!!!!!

Congrats,

I just installed the Pacific Insert. Word to the wise, on mine and by the looks of it on yours the side and top pieces need to be removed for the surrond to go on. When I went to punt the to bay piece back on it was too tight for the tabs to fit back in. Had to remove almost 1/8" of material so keep that in mind, hopefully yours will go smoothly but have a bench grinder handy.

I hope you enjoy your new present, Justin is a great guy and has bought for us for sometime not only does he offer a spectacular product but his customer service is fantastic. If you have any questions please feel free to contact him or myself.
