I decided to follow a few other Hearth.member's idea's and started my Temperature Digital Project. Thanks to a few thread's from woodmiser, scooby74 and Spinny, I now have mine completed.....almost. My list of supplys:

I have the left PID set up for stove top, the fan turns on at the set value + Hy, off at set value. No alarm connection yet. And right for flue temp, with alarm set for high temp (to prevent overfire).

My wife's cat loves to lay in front of the stove, she even tell's me by looking at the stove that it is time to add more wood for heat, so she can lay down again!

That is very cool, I have been thinking on and off of a setup similar to this so I can monitor flue temps with my insert. Awesome to see it all laid out nice on a breadboard and such, doesn't look like you needed much for circuitry beyond what is provided with what you ordered.

Thanks for the writeup! I'll be keeping this in mind if I get the itch to bust out the soldering iron.

With only having two weeks under my belt with using a wood stove I too have been thinking about some how monitoring my stove temp.

I was looking at this:

The monitor offers an option of picking two temp. sensing devices
One being the same washer probe for stove top reading http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=20_3&products_id=307
The other being a probe type.

I was thinking of designing a magnet style device to hold washer probe and talked to Auber last week and they said they are a few weeks from developing a magnet/probe to do the same.
They said the problem is regular magnets will fail at high temps and that you must use a Alnico Magnet http://www.amazon.com/Master-Magnetics-07279-Horseshoe-Magnet/dp/B000BPC14W but making this is easy enough and not costly.
Would use a spring,bolt etc.

Do you think the above monitor will serve the purpose of monitoring/alarming same as the system you built?

The duel temp monitor looks good. One thing you might consider is adding a auto resetting alarm mute button. I have one on mine. I posted the schematic on Scooby"s thread.
With the SSR controlling the fan you could still use the relay for a stove top alarm.

The Aubrins unit looks like a nice monitor/alarm all in one compact package.

You can make a magnet mount sensor pretty easily. Here is the one I made.

WESS99, The Auberins SYL-1512A2 alarm auto reset is built in. When the temperature comes back below the AL1 it reset's. Seeing both temps is a good thing, still use the mechanical thermometers as well. I used a magnet from a junk stove thermometer with the washer probe and so far is holding up.
Gabby12, For a few buck's more, I decided to go this route, so that I could add the fan onto the controller and to have only one box under the stove.

Your right, I forgot that controller has that feature. As a matter of fact you can press the ">" button on the controller to silence the alarm,
you don't have to wait for the temp fall below AL1.

Well, the alarm work's! Woke me up yesterday morning 1 hour after I crawled into bed ( work nights ). I wonder how many other times the stove temp and flue temp raised after going to bed. Air was only at 25% when the alarm went off. Had to shut air off for 5 minutes to bring flue temp back down under 900. Stove temp was at 650, normally at 450-500.

That's great. Could you go into a little bit more detail? Like a full shopping list and a diagram... I am a bit challenged when it comes to electricity, since you can't see it and only feel it when it's too late. I always thought that this kind of a control box should be standard on an upper-end wood stove. Thanks!

Sure, I can have something put together late this week. I was planning on finishing up the installation of the alarms, and adding a on/off switch so that it isn't on all summer. There is a partial list at the beginning of this thread.

get a pipe prob and the magnet deal ,and put a switch in a box with these connectors and sensor wire http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7_34&products_id=119 then I could switch between the pipe and stove top. I like the idea of having an alarm if the stove gets to hot and at a glance you could see what your temp is.

HDRock, That would probably work, I have just under $150.00 into my setup. I had looked at that setup and decided to go this route. I wanted to have something dark to blend in under the stove. Just had to get past the learning curve of the PID and get it perform, it has improved my burn times.

The problem with putting in the switch is the alarm setting would be the same for both pipe and stove if you have it active. By having two separate controllers the alarm set points can be set to two different temps.

Mainly I would be monitoring stove top temp, and set alarm for that, but if I could switch to pipe , that would be cool, so I would know exactly where that is. .
Obviously if set for one the other would not be accurate
With an IR thermometer and mag , thermometers ,I pretty much know what I got going on now , but I think this is better

This was originally around the fireplace, which i took out and put it back up on the wall. The arch is the only pieces that stayed in original form. If I recall right, they called it Keystone. Below the hearth is the only area not removed. Took about 3 - 4 weeks to complete the transformation.

First half year not good, wood was not dry, maybe 2 cord. Second full year was much better,3-4 cord. Half way thru second year, I installed the PID and improved the burn time by 2-3 hours. In my first year and a half I built up my supply of 12+ cord of wood. I have use and added more wood over time. Most of the time it is warm in the house, when temps get down to around 0, it takes a little more effort to keep it warm.
