The damper handle and the primary air control handle on my Defiant Encore 2140 both make a screaking sound when I move them, which doesnt surprise me much. Inside it must all be metal on metal, and it's now 25 years old, so ... no surprise to me.
She says it bothers her and even can wake her up in the middle of the night when I get up to go to the bathroom (I'm an old man and I drink LOTS of coffee) and load it up.
I told her I know of no way to do anything about it short of opening up the insides of the stove which I do NOT want to do. But she says can't I at least squirt something into the holes where the handles come out of?
I'm not making this up.
My response to that suggestion is that any kind of lubricant I put into or onto a stove that reaches 500 - 700 degrees would be vaporized, and possibly leave a residue that I wouldnt want in there. I cant imagine it would present a fire hazard but still I dont think it's a reasonable thing to try to do. And I did look in the Service Manual and the words oil, lubricate, lubricant are not in there.
Anybody want to give me a supportive statement here?
