This is the third time I am installing one of these jotul DV stoves. Installing a 600DV running on propane. Book says you need to chop a 10x10 hole through the wall for wall termination and use a wall thimble which I did on the last two. This one however is going through a concrete block wall. I don’t see a need for a wall thimble and would prefer to keep the hole through the wall as small as possible. I am wondering if the wall thimble is for going through a combustible material wall ?

You don't need the wall thimble, but it will be easier to remove
the venting if you ever need to. If you don't use it, simply
make the hole large enough to fit the DV pipe thru, around 7"
You can seal it to the foundation with hydraulic cement before you mount the cap on.
You will need to tapcon the cap to the foundation& then silicone the
top & sides to prevent water entering. The bottom can be left open
for drainage should any water find its way in.
You have to meet the ground to cap clearance as well.
