need help getting rid of noisy oil boiler

hi my name is wayne i have just moved to northeastern pa into my first home this is my first winter i will be spending here with many more to come. my home now is heated with oil and i cannot stand it it is noisy and costs to much. i have a zero clearence fireplace in my living room whichi like but is far to inefficient.i am seriously thinking about converting my connected garage into a boiler room and installing a garn jr i have 7 cords of firewood ive cut this summer clearing land on my property and cannot see using it just to go up the chimney.my home is 2100sf well insulated. so my question is do u think this is my best option or will i be making a mistake

You will have to make that decision yourself - everyones situation is different. Read as much as you can here for starters.

you might want to start by getting the oil furnace serviced first, as it should not be "noisy". yes they make some noise when running but nothing that should bother you. cheap investment for this year and could also save some money for your future wood burning project.

Welcome Wayne.

I would also say to get the oil boiler serviced this year and use it while you do some additional research. That means you aren't rushing to get things done to get heat, and it gives your wood more time to season.

That is exactly my plan I have someone coming to service boiler and I want to wait until Summer before starting anything I'm just looking for suggestions as to a setup that would save me money and be able to keep the house a bit warmer I'm looking for input on different systems on what has worked well for other people and that seems to be a gasification boiler with storage the garn unit seems to get good reviews with negatives being hard to find I'm just wondering if I'm maybe overlooking something that may be better or equal any input would be greatly appreciated. Ow and I have been reading this four in when I started looking I thought a outdoor " smoke dragon " as some people call them was the cats meow after reading I'm very glad I found this fourum and everyone's knowledge and experiences before I made that decision

Ok..whats your electric cost per Kwh? I have a gasification boiler w/storage and just installed a couple of HP's for heat and A/c. love them. Still burning wood. but curious of your electricity costs.

Oil costs? Any guess on how much oil the house has used per year?

Do you have NG where you are?

Price of pellets where you are?

How is your house heated now? Baseboard?

8 cents? wow. Mine is 14.7 cents. And rough figuring the Heat pump is about the same cost for me to heat my house. 8 cents, you might want to just look at HP's? Just a thought.

I was using about 1000 gals a yr. Thats for DHW is the summer and heating the house to about 68f in the winter. I replaced that with 6.5 cords of well seasoned wood. This is using a gasser and storage. Storage helps slightly in efficiency, but is more of a convenience. Also, I have BB heat but my kitchen floor has staple up radiant. Storage really performs better with radiant systems.

Up here pellets are about on par with wood as far as the cost per BTU.. Pellet boilers are getting pretty refined.

Not off the top of my head, but others will chime in. Your low cost for electric you may want to look into options with that also.

To your noise problem...have the boiler serviced by a knowledgeable oil burner tech. He can change the nozzle to a different spray pattern nozzle, some are quiter than others for sure. May gain ya some efficiency too...
