Got a quick question for you experts in the field. I will be helping a friend install a osburn freestanding stove on a 12inch raised hearth, that we will be building. He is also wanting to install veneer stone behind the stove. my question is he had a guy build a masonary chimmey and the timble is flush with the interior wall. with one inch spacers and veneer stones 1.50 inches thick how can i install the single wall chimmey pipe in this kind of set up?

What kind of clearance to combustibles are there from the thimble?

It sounds like the connector may be passing thru a ventilated wall shield. Is this correct? If so, how close are the nearest combustibles to the thimble opening? This includes nearby studs, drywall, braces, shims, etc..

my 2 cents is that any chimney penetration or to traverse the thimble requires class A, IMHO it is my understanding that you can not use single wall

If there are proper clearances to the existing thimble you can extend it and use single wall and for a masonry chimney you would not use class a anyway you would use an insulated thimble. also referred to as a wall pass thru
