Hello.I have an over 100-year-old oak farmhouse with a tin roof. Only insulation is what I put in the ceiling.aprox 900 sqr.ft.Storm windows from the 70's.I've been using an Ashley wood circulator for the last 9 years & it's shot.I'm lost now on what to purchase. I like the north-south type wood loading but can use east-west if the door opens from left to right. Looks don't concern me.I don't think I want the catalytic type. I kinda liked the Drolet Black stag II but can't find a review. I can go as high as $1400.but I don't want too. Your advice on makes & models would be appreciated.

You can pick up a new Englander, Drolet, Summer's Heat, etc.from the big box stores for under your price point. These are no-frills, EPA stoves that will likely serve you well. I didn't pay much more for my PE Summit, and I couldn't be happier with it. BTW, these cheaper steel stoves are easy to cook on if you would like.
I would spend the money on insulating the house first. Then you can buy a smaller stove and use less wood.

Looks like the 32-NC has an additional burn tube (5 now) and a double layer of insulation board on top of the tubes. I also see they improved the documentation considerably over the 30-NC. That alone is a welcome improvement.(broken link removed)

You may be happier with a used none EPA stove as newer EPA stoves need dry wood to run right. Older stoves can deal with higher moisture content wood but that still means they are less efficient and potentially a creosote generator. Dependent on your local wood supply dry wood takes 1 to 3 years to dry from when its cut and split. There are ways of speeding that up but that requires some experience.
It also has no blower. I've talked with one of their techs who indicated that their designers felt it was not needed. I trust they know better than me but I will wait to hear from new owners about this .
The other thing new on this stove is that the option to have legs verses pedestal has been eliminated. It is now only a pedestal stove (dang-it).
It's new. I think they will hear from owners that a blower is desired for some installations. Like the side shields, it appears to be an option. At least they show one on the Home Depot website.

I saw in the pics it looked like there's an extra layer of insulation board on the top of the tubes. Didn't catch the extra tube but I just counted the tubes in mine and yep, there's only 4. I'm definitely all ears to hear how these new ones run. Thinking of selling my house in the next year or so and I'm already worrying about what kind of stove I should put in the new place that I don't even have yet, LOL.
