Got an opportunity to grab this as, guy claimed 3-4 cords of white oak. Went to take a look. Definitely not 3-4 cord, and definitely not white oak, probably 2-2.5 cord of all ash at most.He wanted $300, offered $200 and he accepted if want it for that. Keep in mind this is a 40+ minute ride from my house, with the possibility of 2 trips if I can squeeze it all on my truck and trailer. Would you guys go for it?

40+ minutes each way and paying for it that's a NO from me, but everyone's situation is different.
Normally, I try to scrounge, but it has been very slim Pickens for a long time up this way. The max level I pay is 100 bucks a cord especially I have to go chase it. This is at the very limit of the distance. I’d be willing to travel for Wood.

If I got him down to 150. I would probably do it. I might send him another offer.

CSS that's $1k worth of wood at my place 90 miles NW of you. I would do it. (if I was 20 years younger and had the means to process it.)

I wouldn't pay any more than 2 for it though.

Like I said it all depends on your location and situation. I have my own woods to cut from but when I didn't there was still plenty to scrounge locally. When I bought wood I would order a log truck load and process from there.

I wish I could find a tree company local that would do that, all the ones that I can find are too far and won’t deliver that far. Everyone around here thinks they have gold when it comes to wood when in reality a lot of what is free or very cheap is junk

I’d take it for free but wouldn’t pay for it. There’s the travel time and need to process it.I was coming up empty handed for a while too but then hit jackpot. Was almost considering buying a log truck load. If you’re not too far behind in scrounging I’d stay patient and really keep a close eye on craigslist and FBMP for free stuff. Usually the dreamers trying to sell their wood in the end give it away because nobody pays the price they are asking and they get tired of looking at it. Keep it in your saved folder if FBMP and you may see it drop down to free. I’ve seen it happen many times.

Have you tried Warwick tree service? They used to give away wood when doing jobs in CT, I actually scored some from them about 10-15 years ago I see they are still in business.

I called them. They do not offer log length delivered.

I did find someone on FB marketplace that would deliver 7 cords for $700, but I do not need or have the space for that much on top of what I already have on hand. I asked if he will do a smaller load at a lower cost but waiting to hear back.

I still have about 9-10 cord on hand. By no means need the wood. Just want to replace what I use and give it plenty of time for seasoning . Was looking for stuff that was free or a decent deal.

That’s a good deal but yea that’s a lot of wood. Last week I just got done processing my free score log length I posted about in the work done thread and ended up with 5.5 cord. The stack is 52”x52” and 36’ in length.

I was thinking 3 or 4 cord delivered if he’ll do it. Well see.
Warwick tree does some work around here trimming and cutting for utilities. They were giving wood away here while they were working because it can't go out of state to their processing and it costs a lot to transport it for disposal. There are quite a few local tree services in your area, you'd think it would be easy to get wood.

@Dieselhead $350 for a 15 yard dumpster worth delivered in log length from the same guy. Math says 3.16 cord worth. 15 yard x 27 cubic foot per yard is 408/128 =3.16. Assuming it’s stuffed. You think that’s a better deal than $200 for what I posted pics of? Otherwise it’s 3.5 hours worth of driving, plus loading and unloading my truck and trailer 2 separate times.

Other benefit to log length I can cut them exactly how I want vs this ash already cut in rounds.

I love log length for that reason, ideal length for my stove. Honestly that seems fair for the dumpster load depending on species of logs. I think that original post you put up wouldn’t work out to more than a cord and a half at the most and in the end it’s ash. Ok wood but not a primo hardwood by any means.

He said mixed hardwood but I might be able to request a specific specie(s)

Personally I won't pay for the honor to remove somebody else's downed tree.

It’s time, not cost. $50 pales in comparison to the time it would take if I can’t pull right up next to it. I wouldn’t be driving 40 minutes one way to spend 4 hours bucking and carting to the street.

I told him I’d pass. I’ll keep an eye out if it turns to free. And I can put a trailer right next to the wood pile so that is a plus.
