Need to bypass thermodisc to get igniter it to work?

Have a Breckwell P24 from '98, while we had it pulled out of the fireplace opening I decided to replace some of the old parts, replaced vacuum switch, high limit snap switch (High Temp. Thermodisc) and ceramic fan switch (Auger Thermodisc), + auger motor (auger stopped feeding). Now auger feeds fine, but will only ignite when I bypass or jump the auger thermodisc wires. Don't know why that would even have anything to do with the functioning of the igniter. Also not much to go wrong with a new thermodisc? All parts were from Breckwell. Unfortunately, I can't put old thermodisc back in, as it broke when I removed it. Has anyone ever had this problem?

It is possible that the snap disc is bad but it i doubt it. Im thinking when the old auger motor stopped it may have seized and over loaded the circuit. Does your stove have the analog board or has it been upgraded to the digital board

Has original analog board.

You should have 3 snap discs,the auger one is not the fan one.The link I will leave has links to the 2 old style wiring systems.Perhaps you may have plugged something in wrong? http://www.hearthtools.com/parts/Breckwell_help.htm#Jumpers

Is it possible you have the wrong switch? Don't know anything about your stove but from what you're explaining the stock switch should break contact on temperature rise to shut off the igniter once there is fire. Sounds like you have a switch that closes on temperature rise which would turn the igniter on when there is fire not off.

Thanks for both replys, Bob's for understanding more about what I'm dealing with, and Ron's for asking a simple question which just hadn't occured to me, which I think is correct. Prior to the auger stopping, bad motor; there was no ignition problem until I replaced the two thermodiscs, I now suspect that I have a closed circuit switch installed where an open circuit switch is called for. Follow up: It was indeed the wrong snap switch. I swapped it out with one which is always "on", ignition worked fine. Now I just have to track down the correct Honeywell snap switch and not just a stand-in.

Part of the problem with parts houses is they sometimes do not have listings for the older control systems.As in your case,what Breckwell wanted a dealer or repairman to do is upgrade your stove with a digital control board kit,which usually includes wiring harness and snap switches.I have run into this with St Croix stoves,also.
