Never bought slab wood, worth it?

Got a heaping bed full of oak, ash, hickory, and maple slab wood already cut to 16-20" lengths for $25. All I gotta do is toss it in bed and stack up at home. Also had a few nice chunks of knotty pieces and damaged pieces. Seasoned the summer too.

I've never burned slab wood and don't know if this was a good deal and if I will burn it up faster than rounds or splits?

It will burn up faster than rounds or split wood but is great shoulder season wood. Great stuff, I missed out on getting any this year but it can be had around here for $30 a full cord.

Doesn't sound like too bad of a deal. It burns faster than regular firewood, careful loading a bunch on hot coals, it can really take off on you if it is good and dry!
FYI, if you wanna burn slab wood you can buy it from Amish sawmills for as little as $10-15 per bundle which would give you at least twice that much wood. Just hafta cut and season it yourself...

All the saw mills around me , 2 that I know of, haul all you want for free. You load your own and you can cut right there and load. They just put in pile and sets there till they burn or someone gets it.

It sounds to me like it is worth it. Maybe there are better deals out there, but $25 for a truck load of wood sounds like a good deal.

Looks like at least a 1/3 cord for $25, Thats $75 a cord with all the work done but stacking. Thats gotta be cheap anywhere if you have to buy. Stack it loose dont put the faces together let the air get too it to dry it out and keep it off the ground.

That sounds like a good deal to me. You look to have about 1/3 cord in your truck. Assuming 23 MMBTU/cord for your mix, you are delivering heat to your home at around $4/MMBTU. I say get as much as you can use.

Just remember most of that is cut green so it will likely need drying time- and you will need to sticker it to get air flow for drying purposes.

Stack it criss cross so you have some air flow. Moisture will sit in between pieces forever.
