Going to rebuild my hearth using a base of durock, 2 sheets of Micore and covered with another 2 sheets of durock. Anyway, to cover the durock on the hearth I am going to use thin brick. I'm also going to cover the face of the existing fireplace with durock and put the same thin bricks over that. I am wondering if I should use mortar or thinset. I'm leaning towards thinset but I'm concerned if I use the regular thinset that you'd use for tile, it may not stand up to the heat. Can anyone recommend a specific thinset for this purpose?

Thanks,
Mike

I was thinking mortar with a deep notched trowel but I am not a mason. The second part of this guide covers thin brick veneer on cement board. Looks like they recommend type S bonding mortar.
