Short background, I used to have an NC-30 in a previous home. Boy do I miss that stove! However, life moves on and I purchased my childhood home a few years ago. Still has my grandfathers Lil Moe All-nighter in the basement, in great shape and maintained well. However I’d like to install an insert into the main floor fireplace, which has some sort of metal form fireplace. My father says it’s a heatilator, but it could be another brand.
The fireplace in central to the house, and has cathedral ceilings around. The fireplace and flues are all masonry (behind the firebox). Total chimney height is 25’ +/-. The fireplace has an arched face, 37” wide, 28” high at center & 22” at sides. Center is 22.5” deep at bottom, and 17” at top. 28” wide at rear bottom. Everything starts to taper around 15” off floor. Picture is attached of face, and I have every intention of meeting clearance requirements (tv may need to relocate)
I have been looking at the TN20, Osburn 3500 & 2000, Drolet 1800/CW2900. the 3500 is just barely too big to fit . I really like the option to load N/S after having the NC-30 for years. My only hang up is the 2000 is 2.4 CF vs the TN20 at 2.0. The TN20 can load N/S 18”. I’d ideally like to put the largest insert I can in there, so it’s likely between those two unless you guys have any suggestions. Is one a better stove than the other? Quality-wise?
Look forward to seeing what you have to say!
