Anyone know about the paint on the Jotul gf 500 , our new stove is shedding black matte paint on a daily basis. Also the smell upon initial daily firing still causes paint/metal smell. Have been running and shutting off for a month and still smells. CAUSING LUNG IRRATATION.... Contacted dealer and Jotul and still not help. Called Jotul in Maine and can't get a response. Dealer doesn't know what to say. Help winter is almost here.

Call your dealer & tell him you want it replaced.

Thank you for your reply Mr Daksy... we did that today..Told them we will only accept an enamel new stove. will know more tomorrow.. Did reach the rep in Maine he was understanding however had no answer. Did talk finally to regional rep...we are in Nor California and he was very vague.. and said to wait for the dealer.. They give blah blah...Such a bummer we removed our wonderful Efel oil burning stove been using for 15 years because it is problematic in the wind and would backdraft sometimes. any way thanks. What do you think of the enamel? should be fine as it is powder coated. How about the paint on the interior fire box and shrouds...should burn off pretty quick I guess?

The Jotul enamel stoves are gorgeous, but chips happen, & some colors touch-up better than others.
Any paint out gassing during curing in the firebox is a non-issue...That'll go up the flue.
You MAY get some burn-off on the heat shields..
