New Jotul Oslo I Love It Already

Thanks to everybody who posted answers to our problem of trying to decide between the F600 and the F500.
We finally decided to go with the F500 for many reasons. The look of the stove, the single door on front, the side door being on the left, the design of the door handles, the stove dealer came out and said the Oslo would do the job, I hated the double doors on the F600 and hated the detachable door handle.

I have done all the break in fires and so far so good. The stove is very easy to light and to operate, I love the single air control, the stove is very easy to load wood into and the firebox is so much larger then the Quadra fire 3100. Even doing the small break in fires this stove puts off much more heat then the convection action of the Quadra fire and keeps putting heat out long after the fire is out. I am so happy to have a true radiant stove once again. I cant wait for it to get cold enough to start burning

You picked that stove for all the right reasons! It's a well loved stove by many members here. Let us know what you think once it gets up to 550 degrees.

Welcome Molly to the fraternal order of Oslo owners. It's a large group here, mostly issue free. The stove keeps doing what it does year after year. Mine, 13 years it the same today as day one. You will love the porcelain finish. We use pledge on it. We did get a quarter size change in the luster on the top. I think it was from the water pot boiling over.

I agree with begreen - just a barely dampened cloth. I like to use really old face cloth, leaves no lint. the blue black is really perfection. However - Molly's brown looks beautiful

We just installed the same stove and love it!! I finished the last break-in fire Thursday, and got to do the first real extended fire yesterday and last night. It did fabulous. When that secondary burn kicks in, wow, does it put out the heat. Got a good 8 hour burn last night, and still had coals this morning. House was a comfortable 72 this morning, and it got down to 31 last night outside. So excited!!

BeGreen, Pledge is fine, been using it forever. The wax in it puts a real nice shin to the glossy indestructible glass finish. Even better doing it as the stove is warming up.

No not at all, nothing, and I do all sides and top and not lightly. The stove does have that lemon smell for a few minute's. Come to think about it a lot better than ash smell.

Wax on a stove surface is not necessary nor do I think it would be recommended by Jotul.

• do not attempt to clean hot enamel surfaces. Clean only cold enamel surfaces with a soft damp cloth and polish with a clean dry cloth.

No, that is our old stove. I just like to look at it. We have an Alderlea T6 now.

Congrats on your Jotul Oslo and welcome to H.Com. I have had my F500 for 5 years now and still enjoy it like it was day 1. I think you will really appreciate and enjoy it.
