Hi, and thank you for accepting me as a member.

Relatively knew to woodstoves. I have a Vermont castings, resolute acclaim 2490 from
1999. The bricks, combustion package and other elements need to be replaced. We’re having difficulty finding someone locally – central New York – to do the work for us and I also understand it’s difficult to find the parts. One question I have is is it worth rebuilding or should I look for a new woodstove.

We have a large home – 3900 ft.² – that is primarily heated with oil but we use the wood stove to heat one portion of the house during the winter months. The Vermont castings that we have did a fine job last season. It heats up to 1500 ft.² and has a BTU rating of 51,000 with an efficiency rating of 72 to 75%.

What do you folks think, worth rebuilding or should I invest in a new stove?

If I need a new stove, what recommendations can you offer?

I appreciate any advice you folks can offer. Thank you.

I would not invest in repair of the stove. It's a good looker but it was not a robust design. Personally, I would be looking into a lower maintenance stove that can do the job.

They heat one portion only.
I guess a 2.5-3 cu ft stove would do here.

@Ozweepey, how tall are the ceilings in the 1,500 sq ft area that the stove is in? Are there a lot of large windows in this room?

Vermont Castings stoves have improved, but they are also now more complex. The closest option to a large, radiant stove is the Hearthstone Manchester. This is a side and front loading stove. Another option would be the Woodstock Progress Hybrid which is a side loader.

I'm with BG, the Manchester is a nice choice. Jotul's Oslo would be on my list too, although operationally I can't attest to the new V3.
Lots of good steel stove candidates, if op is open to them. A good question was asked tho, about the chimney? I'd think the PE cast/steel stoves should be considered too, getting the best of both looks.. Good luck looking.

Thanks, if you see my new post, you’ll see I’m restricted to only a rear vented option. Is the Manchester a rear vent?

The Manchester is top or rear vented, looking at install manual, top of rear vent is just under 26 inches. I'd think that's a good choice too.
