I had the insert version on of that stove. It seemed to heat about 1,000 sf of my house during really cold days. Mild days (above 30) it heated 1,700 sf. My house is really drafty so I upgraded to larger stove which heats my hole house always. You're in Texas so I think you're in good shape. The height of your ceilings will factor in as well. Good luck!

For advice on how to best burn in that baby there was a really good thread that I started last winter about getting the most out of a smaller firebox. That thread was chock full of good info. Hope that helps.

I think ya wouldnt have any problems heating 500sf with that stove. Hope ya started on your firewood already, best of luck with your install.

we have a Napoleon 1900p and heat 2800 sq. feet here in the cold central PA winters easily....haven't had to turn my furnaces on AT ALL in the past three years (except to make sure they work, of course)....we loved our Napoleon so much we went and bought an NZ3000 ZC fireplace for our living room......they are expensive but I think they are a great stove.....

Here's the link to the to the thread I was talking about https://www.hearth.com/talk/threads/63883/

Good luck with your new wood burner. Shouldn't be much of a learning curve being that you already have the same stove as an insert. One thing I loved about that insert is the fan is in the back so it's super quiet.
