New to "high tech" wood stove era / questions

Hello all,

For the last 12 years I have been burning wood in my Fuego fireplace its basically a steel fireplace.
I have just bought a 2 year old PACIFIC ENERGY SUMMIT CLASSIC in red enamel!
I am looking forward to this heating season with this new-to-me wood stove. I was wondering if someone could
estimate the cost of the pipe (just a ball park figure) it's going to pass though a 1 story roof. I am thinking it should be about 12-14 feet in height. Any advice or direction where to get the pipe is appreciated.

Where and how in your home is this stove to be installed? Is it the insert, or a freestanding stove? How did you estimate the height of the chimney? Do you understand the 3-2-10 rule? Clearances from combustibles? Hearth protection? Height from flue collar to ceiling? Single-wall connector pipe, or double? Is the chimney going to pass through an attic space? What's the roofing material? See...ask a simple question and all you get is a whole lot more simple questions. Welcome to the forums! Rick

Assuming this is a straight-forward, freestanding installation like mine was, the cost of our double-wall pipe this spring was in the neighborhood of $700. Yours might be different, but there's a ballpark figure for ya! A little shocking, isn't it.

Yep, that's pretty darn close to what I paid for my stuff. Maybe just a little less since I got a good deal off of my ceiling support kit from eBay. I have two 3 foot chimney sections and two 2 foot sections from Lowe's-(10 feet of chimney). I also included the price of my stove pipe from the stove to the ceiling (Heat-Fab) and the chimney brace I had to buy.

If you don't do the installation yourself, I'm guessing you will probably have to at least double or triple that amount.

Oh yeah, I forgot, I had to make a hearth too. That was about another $80.00 in supplies, and it was a simple made one. Don't forget about that if you need one.

I had pro installers, and it was actually cheap compared to the pipe! $500.

Yep I got about $650 in my pipe.

FWIW, we just had a chimney installed. Double wall all the way up, about 16' in total. $1466.

I have 8 ft ceilings and a 7/12 pitch roof. We used the Class A from Lowes, 1 ceiling kit (support box, attic shield, Flashing, and chimney cap) and four 36" sections, below the ceiling it was two 45 degree elbows and one 48" telescoping piece (all double wall metal fab). The total bill came to about $650, like others have said.

Of course I did the install my self, and buying the class A chimney parts from Lowes you pay about 50% of the price most stove shops charge.

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised that my stove shop/installers didn't ding me hard on the pipe, since I bought it from them. Once they gave me a quote, I did shop other pricing a bit just to make sure they were in the ballpark, and I immediately realized that their price was quite fair.

Does any one know of installers in Broome county NY (Binghamton area).

Any idea how long this stove will last ? Pacific Energy Summit Classic!

That Summit will last a long time. It's built simple and strong. Good choice, you'll love it.
