We put in a New Oslo for a guy today, we removed a 4 year old Freedom insert. I ended up buying it for $800, the fire bricks aren't even black in it. He said the previous owners had it installed and hardly used it. He got rid of it because it was a slam and jam install and it smoked out upon fire up. We replaced it with a hearth mount Oslo with a full re-line, I will post pics as soon as I install it. Should be fired up tonight!

I looked at the new Lopi stoves this fall. I really liked them, and if I had the $$ would have probably bought one!! Ended up with a used VC intrepid. would have rather had a lopi, but the timing was off for us.

I added some pics, it is up and running great!

Looks great! my question is: does the top get hot enough to cook on for real? Lopi advertises it that way.

Ann - The top will definitely get hot enough to cook on. I made the best pot of chili known to man on mine a few weeks back. I cooked the meat on the kitchen stove, then mixed everything together in my cast iron pot and put it on to simmer for about 2 hours. It was fantastic! And it's good to know if the power ever goes out I won't have to eat cold food.

I got a used Avalon 1190 insert, twins just like yours last year. It was 4 years old. I paid $1250 with the insert, the pipe and a cap. Then $475 for the install and new gaskets. You got a GREAT deal. Get the manual from Travis.

Ann, I put a coffee pot on trivet it and the water goes away. I want to get a cast iron pot but they are $50 up so I am looking on CL.

Robert we bought one of these at a local Walmart and it has held up well http://www.walmart.com/ip/Lodge-Color-Enamel-and-Cast-Iron-3-qt.-Dutch-Oven-Red/5716697 .. We paid around $30.00 a couple years ago and use it without the lid.. I place it directly on the polished cast iron cooktop directly above the cat and it can take the heat! We steam off about 2 gallons of water a day in that location.. Porcelain cast iron stays pretty clean and plain iron gets very gross bubbling up thick rusty stinky iron smelling water.. They have some nice porcelain cast iron pots at walmart in different colors.. Even if run dry these pots will survive..
