Here's mine. Just bought it. Early Momma Bear. Inside door stamped FS1.

Thanks Coaly. I'm thinking this stove is dated somewhere in the late 70's because of the spring handle, the flat top door and the 4 prong damper caps. I'm not sure what the FS1 stands for and my research didn't give me anything. If you have any information that would help I would appreciate it very much.
I installed the 8 X 15 steel plate baffle per your post. I had to replace 4 bricks and do a lot of cleaning! Thanks for what you do here.

I'd guess 76 or 77. The spring was a course wound plated one by 78, with bent handle (78 brochure) and the 5 fin caps came along shortly after being shown on '79 manuals. That doesn't mean fabricators had plenty of the old style to use up before going to the new......

Most door markings from foundry won't tell you much. Could be a pattern number. Many times there are more than one part in a mold, or had many molds. So they were numbered to show what mold they came from.

Here's an oddity on this poster; an older door (on a Papa) with Pat Pend and no r for the registered trademark yet. (there was a small r then larger R like yours) These doors w/o patent number are found with the first chrome knob or first stainless spring like yours. BUT this one has the bent handle that started much later around 78 that had the newer spring, AND the draft caps on this one were the latest improvement possibly unpainted to stand out. The old door certainly has had a few facelifts.
Unpainted hinge pin rivets and unpainted caps give it a unique look.
