New Trail?

It's been a couple of years since I walked up this trail to a certain point, Sunday I think I'll check it out.

It would be nice to have a secondary trail to up top. Lots of Hemlock in this area with some bigtooth aspen, hopefully some maple.

The original owner use to run the trails with his old doodlebug.

I'll walk it on Sunday then mark my trail with some ribbon, we did have some nice size bigtooth aspen down up top in that area.

Lots of shade in that area so if I do it next summer it will be saved for a hot day.

i havent' heard that word in years. We had a doodlebug when I was a kid. My grandfather cut the back off an old Model A and turned it into something for getting around the woods. We had 190 acres in northern lower michigan. This thing had no doors, chains on the wheels, a rough cut wood deck on the back and doubt it ever went over 15mph. I wouldn't have traded it anything. Maybe during the holidays if I remember I'll look for some old pictures. Thanks for the memories Zap.

I wish the previous owner had some pics but I think the family lost all of them in a fire that took the house years back.

Grab a saw and that sidexside and go! Once you get going it's generally pretty easy to keep on an old logging road or whatever the purpose of the old road was. They generally followed the path of least resistance, topographically wise, and you can usually still see the cuts where they traverse hills. I find old roads all the time.

If I remember right I took the rhino up 50-60 yards then had to stop, I went up after cutting all day on my way out but never went back or took pics that I remember. I'm just hoping the trees blocking the trail are on the ground rather than being hung up.

Did it get too narrow or too many downed trees across the path?? That rhino will go right over many saplings. Got a winch?? If not, a come-along will get you out of or off of any sticky situations you may get yourself into.

I'm almost sure it was a big tree. We have winches and the come-along with a 50 ft. cable. I'll have some pics for Saturday night, it's actually a nice area once you get past the downed trees.

Before I started burning outside in the fireplace today I took a nice ride around the property, on the way out I took a walk up this old trail. Not much to clean up so this will give me a secondary trail up top, some big White Pine,Hemlock with some Bigtooth Quaking Aspen.

Pic 6530 is the only pic looking down the trail, the rest are on the way up.

Most of the work will be close to the top, that area up top is a big mess with downed pine.

I went on a walk this morning up the road, on my way back a guy who lives in the area went by then came back in reverse, he told me a neighbor up the road saw a mountain lion.

I went for a ride around the property and the deer were still hanging around, so it's just rumor until someone gets a cam pic.

That pic is from when our neighbor (Nola) brought it down in August when we used it to move the rocks for the fireplace, not mine.
